Kilimanjaro National Park
The Kilimanjaro National Park was established in 1973 and covers an
area of 756 sq. kms. The altitude rises from 1829 metres at the Marangu
Gate to 5895metres at the Kibo Peak. Although it can be climbed throughout
the year, it is worth avoiding the two rainy seasons (late March to
mid June and Oct to beginning of Dec) when the routes become slippery.
The best time to climb is Jan to Feb and Sep to Oct when there is
usually no cloud. Lake Manyara National Park Lake Manyara National
Park was established in 1960. It is set in the Great Rift Valley and
covers an area of 325 sq. kms of which 229 sq. kms are the lake.
Open grasslands with rocky outcrops, forests and swamps as well as
the lake itself form the park features. The major attraction to the
Park are the famous tree-climbing lions including other wild animals
such as the elephants, hippo, plain animals as well as a huge variety
of bird life, both resident and migratory.
At certain times of the year, Lake Manyara is home to thousands of
flamingoes which form a shimmering pink border around the lakeshore.
